Fish Surf Boards Fun On Small Waves

If you are a beginner or an intermediary surfer and looking to race through the surfs on the beaches of San Diego than the fish surf board is probably your best bet. The post modern fish surf boards with its swallow tail and designed boards may appear kitschy in design but they are great for racing through small waves.

Fish surf boards are excellent surfboards for smaller wave conditions. They are shaped like a fish body, with a pointed tip and slightly blunted tail .These surfboards are wider than shortboards and the extra surface on them makes it easier to paddle and provide enough lift to have fun.

The retro fish surf board which is now hugely popular is a throw back to the fish surf boards of the early 1960s and 1970s. The fish surf board of the 1960s was originally designed so that it could be used as surf board as well as a kneeboard. As the popularity of the fish surf board spread by word of mouth it became the board of the 1970s. In fact in the 1970s, the fish surf boards were the epitome of backyard boards.

At around 5.5 feet in length by 18.5 inches wide, the fish surf boards are slightly smaller than short boards. The traditional fish surf boards had twin keel fins, which caught waves surprisingly well. The shortness of the fish surf board made them best suited for small waves but expert surfers were able to take their surfing a notch up and use these surf boards even on medium sized waves.

The modern fish surf boards also called the rocket fins are slightly different from the traditional fish surf boards. There are several versions of the post modern fish surf boards including boards ranging in length from 17.5 inches to 21 inches. The modern fish surf board is also different from the traditional fish surf board in that it has three fins.

The typical postmodern fish surf board borrows more from the mid-'80s tri-fin than it does from the traditional design of the fish surf board. The fuller, more balanced outlines and flatter rockers of the post modern fish surf boards offer much more speed and easy lift in surfs that the traditional design of fish surf boards allowed for.

Because of the added width of fish surf boards, they are 18.5 inches wide; these boards tend to ride flat on the wave and are not very easy to surf vertically. However, the fish surf board is an excellent choice for any surfer who wants to race through the waves. The fish is best for intermediate to advanced surfers.

At around five-and-a-half feet, the fish surf board does not really appear to be a racy surf board but that is exactly what it is. These boards have better maneuverability than short boards and allow surfers to cut through the waves much faster than long boards.
