If you are a hefty person or taller than the average guy, surfing if definitely a sport that will be harder for you to master than someone of smaller stature. For example, let's take Andre the Giant, a very big and hefty person. Can you imagine him trying to surf? Not only would it be hard for him to stay afloat but if he ever managed to paddle himself out to the water it'd be even harder for him keep balance when he pops up on the board. But what if Andre the Giant really wanted to go surfing but due to things out of his control, it would be impossible for him to borrow his friend's board and try it out.
Well even Andre the Giant can go surfing if he just got a longboard. A longboard is like a regular surfboard in shape except it is wider and longer, hence the name longboard. For someone as big as Andre the Giant, longboards would be ideal since it is wider it will be able to keep him afloat and balanced out on the water. Now that Andre has himself a longboard, he can perfect his skills and probably even get to where he is hanging ten on his longboard. Andre will be a much happier person and he can finally show Hulk Hogan a thing or two out on the beach. Hulk Hogan will sulk in defeat while everyone else cheers on Andre the Giant and his tandem surfing partner.
Even if you are not as big as Andre the Giant, you can still benefit from having a longboard. Longboards catch waves easier than any other surfboard because they are wider and have more surface area meaning that the waves carry longboards much easier. Also balancing on a longboard will be much easier for anyone because it is wider. Since it has these benefits, someone looking to start surfing like Andre the Giant can easily pick it up without being discouraged when you can't even keep your balance on another surfboard. So if you are someone looking to start surfing or someone that wears regular surfboards as flip flops, then longboards would be ideal for you.
