The Stand Up Paddle Board Craze

There’s a hot new trend out there in the water right now, called the Stand Up Paddle Board, and it’s taking over the beaches! Simply put, a Stand Up Paddle Board is usually a mid-size or longboard length, and you stand up on it the entire time, maneuvering around the water with a long wooden or carbon paddle. Instead of the traditional surfboard style, where you paddle out to the wave with your arms and stand up to catch it, a stand up paddle board requires that you stand the entire time and use your paddle to get you around the waves and wait standing on the downtime between sets.

SUP’s or stand up paddle boards are not only a fun new spin on the old surfing sport, but they are a great workout as well. Rowing with your paddle will give you a great beach body for the summer, and keep you in tip top shape for surfing. If you are a new surfer or an expert, stand up paddle boarding is a fun way to stay out there in the water during those long summer days. When you go shopping for your SUP board, Buyboardz is a great place to go. They have a large selection of stand up paddle boards for you to choose from, and at the lowest prices you can find them. When picking out your board, make sure to get the right size for your skill level. The longer stand up paddle boards will give beginners great stability for learning how to stand up all the time, but the maneuverability of the shorter SUP boards may suit the expert surfers a little better.

The length of your new stand up paddle board will not be your only concern. They range in width, from 27” to 31”, with wider boards providing more stability, while the narrower stand up paddle boards give better maneuverability. Don’t overestimate your surfing skills, because although everyone will fall off their SUP while learning, you want to get the longer, wider stand up paddle board if you are a beginner. The last thing to pick out will be your paddle, which can be made of wood or carbon fiber. The carbon fiber paddles are for the expert SUP’ers, while the wooden paddles are suitable for all levels. The general rule of thumb is to get a paddle that is 6” taller than your overall height.

So what are you waiting for? Summer is coming and what better way to get out there in the water for those warm sunny days than with a stand up paddle board! All you need to do to join this fun new surfing craze is pick a SUP board that is the right length and width for your skill level, and your paddle of choice to row around the water. Stand up paddle boards are the board to have this summer!
